Top 7 Ways You Can Create Awareness and Get Huge Followership To Your Blog

All new and even existing bloggers want to get more and more attention to their blogs. If you are just getting started with blogging, you need this most because nobody will know your blog exists until you start to take some steps towards creating some level of publicity and awareness around the blog.

So, once you complete the design and start making posts, do not think you are done and do not expect traffic to start coming in automatically. You have to keep creating awareness and keep working on getting huge followership to your blog. Even the existing and growing bloggers continue to create awareness and publicity. So, it is an ongoing activity that stops the day you stop running your blog.

If you stop promoting your blog to get more attention, attention would start to leave it too and you can start to see traffic drop. I'm writing this from experience. Now, I will be sharing with you some actions to turn into habit if you would like to get more and more attention to your blog.

1. Write Good Content

Everybody knows this but it is just not enough to know, act. Act now and start writing good posts. There are many reasons your posts might not be good; some of which are grammatical errors, spelling mistakes and poor articulation.

You can improve on all these by taking English lessons and reading more. Spelling mistakes can be corrected to a large extent if you type your articles in MS Word first before copying to your online post editor. You can also check out, Yomi Obadina's guest post on "4 Ways To Avoid Common Typos/Grammatical Errors In A Blog Post".

2. Offer RSS Subscription

Many first time visitors will come to your blog, get the information they need and never come back. RSS subscription is a means to convert them on their first visit to become regular readers. Hence, make sure you make your RSS subscriptiion box, links or icons very visible on your blog.

There are many tricks you can use in making RSS subscribers visit your blog. Put a video in your post and see many of them come to your site to view it. If you are using Feedburner to publish your feeds, enable social sharing buttons in your feeds. This way, your subscribers can share your posts to social networks via their email, browser or rss reader. This really creates more social media presence for your blog.

3. Guest Posting

If you don't know about guest posting, then you are probably new to blogging. Some blogs allow you to write guest posts and publish on their website. If you write well and you are able to get your post published on sites with high PR and large readership, you are on your way to getting massive traffic. This is possible because you are allowed to add at least one link back to your blog in your byline and you are sure to get quality backlinks to your blog. RSS subscription also can come in handy here because if you offer it, you can convert some of this traffic to regular readers of your blog.

Making a guest post on Ogbongeblog gives you a PR 3 backlink. Aside from this, you have the chance to showcase your blog in your byline to 9018 RSS subscribers, thousands of Facebook fans and twitter followers. These are the figures at the time of publishing this post and they keep increasing by the day. Now you see how guest posts can help your blog?

4. Review Websites and Interview The Big Bloggers

This method is known as link baiting. You can write a review about a website that offers a unique service and let them know about it. They would normally want their users to see it that they are getting credit for what they are doing and might feature your post on their website or simply link to it. You can check out examples of websites reviews here.

You can also interview the big bloggers in your niche and and they should normally talk about this on their blog. Everyone likes been treated like they are one of the best at what they do.

5. Social Networking

Social networks are great to get awareness and promote your blog. Making use of Twitter, Facebook, Google+, StumbleUpon, Digg, Pinterest and more like that will surely increase your site popularity. Create a Facebook page for your blog, have twitter handle and register on as many dofollow social bookmarking sites you can find in your niche.

There is one experience I had on social media like two months ago that brought an entertainment blog that I manage into so much light. Somehow I was able to get photos from the birthday party of a popular artist and I published them. The artist in question saw it and retweeted to around 500,000 followers. The blog traffic was never the same afterwards.

6. Blog Commenting

I'm not just telling you to start commenting to get backlinks here. No, this is more than that. There is a trick you must know in blog commenting- be the first to comment. This way the blogger will notice you and might even check out your blog link and visit it. I have tried this and it worked like it's programmed. Some readers that will comment immediately after you may even check your blog out.

7. Paid Advertisement

The first six ways above are just the important ones you can start with and all of them are free to implement. If you want to go a step further, you can pay for Google Adwords and Facebook ads to publicize your new blog. You can check out "basics of Facebook advertising" if you are interested in using Facebook ads to promote your blog.

I hope you find this quite informative.

How To Make Blog Post Automatically Appear On Facebook and Twitter

Apart from organic traffic from search engine optimization, you can also be getting free traffic from social networking sites. There are loads of them out there but personally, as at the time of publishing this, I devote more time to Facebook and Twitter.

There are many tricks on how to use Facebook and Twitter in driving traffic to your blog but today, am just sharing one of the tricks. If your blog posts automatically get posted to Facebook and Twitter, you will be getting some hits to your blog, though how much traffic you get from those sites depend on some factors e.g number of friends/fans/followers you have and the number of those friends/fans/followers that are really interested in your blog updates. Will discuss more about this in my future updates.

So, How Do I Get Started?

I use two tools for now: Twitterfeed and Networkedblogs app

Twitterfeed

Once you register at www.twitterfeed.com and add your blog url/feed, you can connect your account to your Facebook profile, Facebook pages and Twitter account. Once authorized and connected, whenever you update your blog with a new post, the title of the blog post, with a link to the full article will be sent across automatically to Twitter and also to Facebook.

More so, you can set up a prefix or suffix e.g "New Post:", "please ReTweet" to be automatically added to the posts sent to Facebook and Twitter. Right at Twitterfeed.com, you’ll see statistics for each post, showing you just how many people clicked on them.

How To Use TwitterFeed

Go straight to Twitterfeed.com and sign up for your free account. Once you sign up, log in and click on the "Add New Feed" button.

Enter your blog name and the blog url in the respective boxes and continue to the next steps where you will have to add your Facebook and Twitter accounts. From the Advanced settings page, you can add the post prefix, post suffix, link shortening service to use etc. Feel free to customize the settings to your need.

Networkedblogs

This a Facebook app. Whenever you publish a new post on your blog, this application easily syndicates the post to your Facebook profile, Facebook Page and Twitter. Once you add this application to your Facebook Timeline, all you need to do, is to add your blog's feed and you are good to go.

NetworkedBlogs

How To Use NetworkedBlogs app

To get started with NetworkedBlogs, go to http://www.networkedblogs.com/blog

Sign in with your Facebook account and authorize it to have access to your profile etc. Once you get to the application page, click on "Register a Blog".  Enter your blog link in the provided box and follow the instructions.

Once you are through adding your blog, click on the "syndication" link to add your Facebook and Twitter targets. Once done successfully, your blog posts will automatically be appearing on Facebook and Twitter whenever you update your blog.

Kindly, go to my own NetworkedBlogs application page and follow me. If you follow me, so I can follow you back.

If you opt for Networkedblogs app, you can also read about the Networkedblogs Panorama.

Do you know any other web app that allows you to automatically post to Facebook and Twitter?

How to Get Traffic To My Blog Using April Fool Joke

On April fool day, I googled "April fool pranks" I can use on my blog and luckily for me, I stumbled on an idea which I tried and still driving traffic to my blog till this very moment.

If you don't know what April fool's day is all about, well, it is a day celebrated in many countries on April 1 every year. Though not a national holiday, many people play practical jokes and hoaxes on each other on the day.

So, what's the prank all about?

==> New APN for Glo BIS to work on PC.

Why play prank with such?

==> Simply because many Nigerian internet users are currently searching for the new trick that will enable them browse with their Glo BIS on PC.

So, how did you use it as April fool prank?

==> I created a Blogger page (not post) and titled it "glo bis" to make an attractive url i.e http://www.ogbongeblog.com/p/glo-bis.html

==> If you check the link above, you won't see anything there apart from "APRIL FOOL" and  a subscription link for those that might be interested in getting the working trick once I have it.

==> I used css to remove sidebars and Adsense ads from the page. (Not cool to place google ad on a page that lacks rich content)

==> I posted the url on my Facebook timeline, Facebook pages and Twitter timeline, with a brief info that "GlO BIS on PC is back with NEW APN".  I didn't publish it as a post on my blog though...

Many of my friends and followers were so happy to see the update and had no choice than to click the link to see the new trick. Unfortunately for them, they were fooled...lol.

==> Luckily for me on April fool day, there was a thread on Nairaland forum where members shared their April fool day experience. I shared the link to the prank page in my comment on the thread and within a twinkle of an eye, I started getting free traffic to my blog from the forum.

The April fool's prank fetched me some new email subscribers and it is still driving traffic to my blog according to Blogger stats.

Did you also fall for this prank on that day? Did you also try some April fool jokes on your blog? Please, let me hear from you via comments.

10 Secrets to be Successful Bloggers!

Today, I'm happy to inform you that there is nothing magical about growing your blog to success. You just need to understand what these established bloggers are doing and apply the same with extra efforts. In blogging business, traffic translates into money so the basis of increasing your earnings from blogging is to work on improving your blog traffic.

1. Do Extensive Niche Research
Before you launch you blog, be careful to carry out deep analysis of the main topics that your blog will be discussing. If you want to earn well through thirdparty ad publishing programmes like Google Adsense, your blog's main theme must be capable of attracting advertisers who are looking to do serious spending to promote or sell their goods and services. High paying niche topics include insurance, loans, online colleges, small business, technology, mobile and PC softwares and tips, health etc. You earn less from niches like art, poetry, music, entertainment, sports, jokes etc. An example of a free tool you can use for this niche keyword analysis is Google Keyword Planner. (Post Here)

2. Pick Quality Blog Platform And Design
Wordpress and Blogger are two commonly used blogging software. Each one comes with its own unique properties. Your choice of blogging platform can go a long way in influencing your blog traffic, blog pageviews and rankings on Search Engine Result Page (SERP). Whatever software or platform you decide to use, make sure it loads fast and is well optimized for Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

When your blog has a good design, it encourages clicking on adverts which increases your blog Click Through Rate (CTR). With a good theme, your blog readers can easily discover and visit related posts which translates to increased page views and time spent on your blog. It has also been discovered that some layout facilitates subscription, following, sharing and tweeting of posts on social media which increases your blog's social presence.

3. Learn About SEO
As a serious blogger, you should be able to find out why some other blogger's post rank higher than yours when you search for things on Google. Understanding what it takes to improve SERP rankings is essential when it comes to increasing visitors to your blog especially from search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. This is because a large fraction of traffic to most blog comes from these search engines.

I find it discouraging at times when I come across fellow bloggers who do not understand basic SEO terms like pagerank, metadata, H1 tags, keyword density, SERP, CPC, CTR, Moz authority, longtail keyword, backlink, outbound link, inlink etc. If you are determined to succeed with your blog, you better sit down and master SEO. Download tutorial manuals and videos from the internet and study them. It is more than just writing posts or writing thousands of them. For instance, a careful choice of words (keywords) in your post title can make that post rank very high in Google search results. Optimize first, don't waste your time writing post that people won't get to read.

4. Let Your Post Solve Readers' Problems
Entertainment bloggers generally publish events and happenings as they trend all in a bid to meet people's desire to inquire into celebrities lifestyle and happenings. Aside from this group, most successful blogger write posts that answer people's questions. They learn to research into what major questions people ask. If your post provides solutions to problems, organic traffic to your blog will increase naturally because more people will be referred to your post. The post will rank high in search results when people type their problems(questions) in Google. You can gather ideas on what problems to solve with your post when you look through:
==> online forums like (Nairaland and WeTalkNaira)
==> comment sections of popular blogs in your niche.

5. Carry Out Keyword Analysis Before Publishing
It is good to know you can write articles really fast. You have tens of posts ready which you are eager to put up online. It is wiser if you can take the pain to carry out in depth keyword research before you publish. Not all keywords can generate enough traffic for your blog, not all keywords will guarantee low competition so you can rank easily in search engines and not all keywords have satisfactory cost per click (CPC). Seo Tool Book and Google Keyword Planner are keyword research tools you can use at no cost. SEMRush, Moz, Market Samurai and Longtail Pro are paid tools that gives you value for your money. The rule of thumb is to use keywords that offer decent traffic, low competition and medium to high CPC.

6. Avoid Duplicate Content (Copy And Paste)
Well, I'm sad to say this. Most entertainment and tech bloggers in Nigeria just copy and paste articles and pictures gotten from other sources. I shake my head when I see the same post and pictures appearing on many of these blogs. To you, you are working hard at blogging but to Google you are a plain cheat who deserves to be dealt with. If you are the type of blogger whose hobby is to steal posts and pictures from bellanaija, linda ikeji etc and then put them up on your blog without rewriting in your own words or giving credit, I pity you. Apart from the fact that law action can be taken against you when you use other people's materials without their consent (Linda Ikeji's Case), Google raises the hammer on blogs that contain articles and pictures that have been posted online before, reducing their rankings. Try this, paste a part of the article you copied into Copyscape or Google search and you will see the link to the original post staring at you.

Writing unique contents (and including original pictures) is necessary if you want to succeed in blogging business. Although this is not easy if you are just setting out, you can develop great writing skills with time. The pictures you use in your blog post can also generate traffic to your blog.

To optimize your images for image search; ensure that the image is:
==> attractive
==> less than 100kb in size,
==> in JPeg (.jpg) format,
==> renamed to contain your keywords separated by hyphen (not spaces) and
==> given a good description in the alt tag.

7. Publish More Often
How often do you publish on your blog. It is a sound advice to write at least 2-3 original blog posts weekly. Your blog will be crawled more often by Google bot because Google loves this. If you want to make decent income from your blog, please take it as serious business. Many bloggers have some other work they do during the day. Well, if you are the busy type, you could compose posts anywhere during the day immediately the inspiration drops, after which you garnish it up with more research and then publish on your blog when you are back from work in the evening. This basically what I use my phone's notepad (memopad) for. If you call yourself a blogger but you are in the habit of writing one post monthly, then I can boldly assure you that you are very much prepared to fail. Just like I recommended previously, you can help yourself out when you run short of ideas on what to write about with the following tips.
==> read related blogs daily
==> look for tips in the comment sections of popular blogs
==> check sections of established forums related to your niche.

8. Avoid Blackhat SEO Methods
Blackhat SEO are illegal techniques that some bloggers employ to rank high in search engine results. SEO techniques such as building bulk backlinks, buying traffic, link exchange farms, using traffic bot, keyword stuffing, publishing spinned articles that are unreadable, using bulk blog commenting softwares (like Scrapebox, Xrummer and Senuke) etc are greatly frowned upon by Google. Though you may come across popular gigs selling these services on Fiverr and Seoclerk, please do well to avoid using blackhat. This is because Google rolls out updates (e.g Panda, Penguin) periodically which are targeted at penalizing blogs that engage in these blackhat methods by reducing their rankings or removing them from search results (de-indexing). It's worthy to note also that most of the algorithms that blackhat SEO targets no longer count in ranking. Quality content is the new king.

9. Establish Social Presence
Do you know why many successful bloggers have thousand of followers on their Facebook andTwitter pages? Here is the reason. Your outreach on social network is one of the indices search engines calculate to know how much love people have for your blog. This invariably hinges on how much value your blog add to visitors and translates to how high you will rank in search engines. Increase social interaction on your blog by concluding your posts with statements that compel readers to drop comments. Google understands that when readers enjoy your post, it will attract comments inform of appreciation or questions. Install widgets and themes that encourage visitors to subscribe to your feeds, follow your blog and share your posts on social media. Ensure you have frequently updated profile pages on major social networks such asFacebook and Twitter.

10. Diversify Your Blog Monetization
Blog monetization are methods that you use to make money from your blog. As a blogger who is determined to make it big in blogging, I'll advise that you look beyond publishing ads for third parties like Google Adsense, Chitika, Adbrite, Infolinks, Addynamo etc. Strive hard to achieve decent traffic so that you can sell banner and text link adverts directly on your blog. Advertisers pay straight into your bank account and you put up ads on their behalf. If you doubt me, send a mail to Jide of Ogbongeblog or Linda Ikeji for their ad rates.

It is also important that you apply for affiliate programmes like Konga, Jumia, Amazon, Media.net etc. Understand that affiliate companies whether indigenous or foreign will reject your application if your blog does not have their traffic requirements. So work on improving traffic first. While most affiliate sites will pay commission when someone you refer to them buys a product or service, a few such as Mobofree will reward you when your referrals sign up free with them.

What Does It Take To Grow A Blog Into Success As A Beginner?

New bloggers sometimes wonder what successful bloggers do that make them earn so much from their blogs. They are surprised that some people somewhere are raking in millions monthly from the internet even though this 'set of gurus' discuss the same topics and use the same blogging software as them.

If you have a large reader base or social media followers, you can make money writing sponsored posts from companies and individuals, as well as by tweeting or sharing sponsored links to your followers. Some bloggers charge between $100-$150 per sponsored post/tweet. That's cool money if you can get an average of 2-3 offers weekly.

The best way to make consistent income from your blog is create and sell information products and services. Information products may be inform of tutorial manuals or videos. Many established bloggers create tutorials that will help upcoming bloggers which they offer for sale at a price on their blogs.

Examples of hot info products are Forex trading videos, fish farming manuals, tutorials on soap and cream making, video lessons on bead making and wire works, training on Adire tie and die, Blogger to Wordpress conversion services, weight loss guides etc.

To become a successful blogger, you need to work hard at improving your blog's traffic, loyal followership and monetization. Finally, I feel delighted to have revealed these top secrets to you. I'm also expectant that you will put all this into good use. Your beginning may be small now but continue working hard. Success is just by the bend.

Is you blog new or already established? Please ask questions on what's bothering you. You can also share tips that worked for you.

How to Make Money As a Bloggers

Monetizing your Blog

Print magazines make money by selling advertising. The larger their circulation, the more influence they exert over people, and the demographics of their readers dictate how much money they make. Blogs are essentially the same. The more traffic (circulation) you have, the type and quality of that traffic (reader demographics) and the influence you have over your audience, determines your profitability. This is why bloggers are obsessed with building traffic. It really doesn’t matter how you make money – it might be a contextual ad program like Google AdSense, affiliate marketing or direct ad sales – the more raw readers you have, generally, the more money you can make.

Quality of traffic plays an important part too. If you have a strong influence over your readers, when you ask them to do something, such as recommending they buy a product you promote as an affiliate, more of them will do so. If you break down the process of blog monetization, the following events occur:

Grow Traffic

Bloggers are obsessed with increasing traffic because traffic is the key determinant for income online. Without traffic, no blog makes money.

1. A person (blogger) creates a web destination point (blog) that people want to visit, possibly on a repeat basis, because of the value it offers. Initially they find the blog by following a link from another blog or website, through a referral from friends or colleagues, or they come across the blog when it appears in the results of a search-engine query.

2. A proportion of that audience is funneled on to other sites that “pay” to buy the traffic. Payment might be in the form of a per-click fee, a monthly rate, an affiliate commission, or profit on a product or service sale. The blogger works to attract attention and then sells that attention to advertisers for a fee or uses the attention to profit from their own product and/or service sales. The key variable here is “attention”. Attention is traffic, influence and the potential to make money from blogging.
